On November 9, 2024, the NSS unit of MIT Bengaluru organized "Hike and Heal," a trek to Shivaganga Hills combining fitness and environmental service. As part of the "Fit India" Campaign and "Swachhata Hi Seva" initiative, participants enjoyed nature, took the Fitness Pledge, and promoted physical and mental well-being. Post-trek, a cleaning drive improved the area's cleanliness, fostering environmental responsibility. The event successfully integrated fitness, community service, and environmental conservation, creating a unifying and impactful experience for all.
The campaign took place from 10 am in the morning to 12 noon on the 2nd of October, with the cleanup drive as the main highlight of the event. A number of enthusiastic students, faculty, and staff members participated in the event. Equipped with gloves, masks, and cleaning tools, the volunteers were divided into smaller groups, each assigned to different parts of the university. The volunteers collected garbage, segregated waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories, and ensured that the collected waste was disposed of responsibly. Banners and placards promoting cleanliness and proper waste management were displayed throughout the campus, reinforcing the key messages of the campaign.
The session was conducted by Ashitha Steffi J and Kruthika R, Senior Associates in Donor Recruitment at DKMS BMST Foundation India. They explained the importance of blood stem cell transplants for blood cancer patients and demonstrated the simple process of registering as a donor. Participants were encouraged to register on the spot by providing a cheek swab sample. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session where the audience’s concerns regarding the donation process were addressed.
The Blood Donation event, held on April 12th, 2024, conducted by VSO MAHE and NSS Unit MIT Bengaluru stood as a collaborative effort aimed at promoting altruism and contributing to the welfare of society. This initiative sought to encourage voluntary blood donation, emphasizing the significance of this noble act in saving lives. Through joint efforts, the event not only sensitized individuals about the importance of blood donation but also actively engaged participants in contributing to the noble cause, embodying the spirit of selfless service and fostering a sense of community welfare during the Daan Utsav celebrations.
TURINGER ’24, held from April 8-13, 2024, united over 140 students in a dynamic event blending technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Organized by the NSS and ACM, highlights included Tradesphere for strategic corporate engagement and Bears vs Bulls, a mock stock trading session to boost financial literacy. NSS fostered community spirit and student development, empowering participants with entrepreneurial and financial skills. This collaborative initiative promoted interdisciplinary teamwork, innovation, and personal growth, creating a valuable and enriching experience for all involved.

The Voting Awareness Campaign, "Mera Pehla Vote Desh ke Liye!", organized by the NSS Unit and the Department of Student Welfare at MIT Bengaluru from March 4-11, 2024, aimed to educate students about the democratic process and inspire participation in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. Events like Penning Perspectives (essay writing), Virtual Visions (digital poster contest), Vote Vow (pledge initiative), and the podcast Voice the Vote engaged first-time voters, highlighting the transformative power of their voices. By fostering creativity, advocacy, and technology, the campaign encouraged cross-disciplinary participation, cultivating a sense of civic responsibility and active engagement in India's democratic framework.
On 14th of February,2024 the NSS unit of MIT Bengaluru had organized its first session of Kannadamrutha where the attendees learnt a few basic words and sentences of the Kannada language.The first session concluded on 16th February with 3 classes of half an hour each with the second session starting from 19th February.
The event, held on February 13th, 2024 began with a welcome address, which immediately followed a short recap of events conducted in the past year along with screening of a short video based on the same. Next, the upcoming event of “Kannadmrutha” was introduced to the audience.
This was followed by announcement of the new office bearers of the unit, who were acknowledged with an appointment letter given to them by the chief guest Dr. Jagannath Korody (Director, MIT Bangalore) himself. After this, the chief guest unveiled the Website of the unit. He addressed the gathering with a few words of wisdom and inspiration when he was invited to grace the audience with a speech after the launch of the website.
The event then continued with the discussion of future plan of events by Nishanth Shet, Unit Head NSS MIT Bengaluru and was concluded with a vote of thanks.
Celebrating 125th Birth Anniversary of Padamshree Awardee Dr. TMA Pai
NATIONAL VOTERS DAY CELEBRATION
Themed around empowering youth in democratic participation, ElecXpressions fostered civic duty through interactive sessions and artistic expression.
The event conducted on January 25th, 2024 by The Electoral Literacy Club of MITBLR in collaboration with NSS and Da Vinci Club celebrated Dr. T.M.A. Pai's 125th Birth Anniversary, inviting participants to engage in electoral literacy through doodling. The Director of MIT Bengaluru, Dr. Jagannath Korody contributed to the board. A screening on National Voters Day and a photoshoot with the director ensued. This fusion of electoral education and art provided a platform for students to express views on democracy and voting rights, promoting inclusivity and dialogue.
By encouraging political awareness, the event aimed to cultivate informed voters and responsible citizens among students.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed in October, aims to globally raise awareness about breast cancer, promote early detection, and offer support.
The "THRIVE 365 - Breast Cancer Awareness" campaign organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS), MIT-Blr Unit, from October 26th to October 31st, 2023, aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The initiative involved distributing pink ribbons symbolizing solidarity with breast cancer patients and advocating for early detection through regular screenings. The event, moderated by NSS coordinators targeted beneficiaries encompassing MAHE Bengaluru campus members, including students, faculty, and staff, contributing to a collective effort to spread awareness, offer support, and fund research initiatives for reducing the impact of breast cancer on individuals and communities.
Throughout the awareness campaign, the NSS team sensitized participants about breast cancer risks, the importance of early detection, and the experiences of survivors. Pink ribbons were distributed alongside group photographs taken as a symbol of solidarity. The event culminated in a "Pink Day" where participants dressed in pink attire, demonstrating their commitment to the cause. The campaign's success was reflected in the active participation of over 400+ individuals and aimed to encourage healthy lifestyles while emphasizing the significance of early detection in combating breast cancer.
The "ISKCON Day Service" conducted by the National Service Scheme (NSS) at MIT-BLR Unit, in collaboration with ISKCON Bengaluru's Volunteering Wing, Krishna Ashraya, on October 21st and November 1st, 2023, aimed to engage volunteers in selfless service (Seva) inspired by the teachings of ISKCON. This event aligned with ISKCON's philosophy of service, emphasizing that engaging in acts of selfless service purifies the heart and deepens one's spiritual connection with the divine. Volunteers actively participated in various service-oriented tasks like footwear management, Prasad distribution, queue management, and Annakuta lunch service, serving over 4300 devotees across the two days. These tasks contributed to the smooth functioning of the event and fostered a sense of responsibility and empathy among participants.
The primary objectives of the event were to engage volunteers in community-oriented tasks, promote social responsibility, provide real-time volunteering experience, and raise awareness about selfless service and its positive impact on society. With a total participation of 57 volunteers over two days, the event exemplified the spirit of Seva, fostering a deeper understanding of service, empathy, and social responsibility among participants.

Through joint efforts, the event not only sensitized individuals about the importance of blood donation but also actively engaged participants in contributing to the noble cause, embodying the spirit of selfless service and fostering a sense of community welfare during the Daan Utsav celebrations.

The "Talk on Volunteering Culture on Campus," organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Manipal Institute of Technology Bengaluru on October 21st, 2022, aimed to instill a sense of social responsibility and create awareness about the significance of NSS activities among UG and PG students.
The event featured a talk delivered by Mr. Shravan Shetty, the Co-Founder of The Bodhi Tree, emphasizing the importance of volunteering in personal, professional, and social spheres. Attendees, including students and faculty members, actively engaged in discussions and interactions, understanding the impact of volunteering while exploring possibilities for NSS involvement in various social initiatives.
The NSS Unit of MIT Bengaluru undertook an insightful visit to the Little Sister’s of The Poor-Home for the Aged on September 19th, 2023. The objective of the visit was more than spending time with the elderly; it aimed to bridge generational gaps and impart mutual learning. The event's significance lay in fostering empathy, respect, and understanding toward the elderly, offering volunteers a chance to appreciate the complexities of aging and the wisdom that comes with it.
Interacting with the elderly residents, volunteers discovered a wealth of experiences and insights, reminding them of life's transient nature and the importance of cherishing every moment. This visit provided an invaluable opportunity for introspection, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of shared humanity.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) at MIT-Blr organized a Walkathon on September 10th, 2023, to commemorate Dr. T.M.A. Pai's 125th Birth Anniversary and raise awareness about mental health. This event aimed to engage the community in open discussions, reduce stigma around mental health issues, and promote overall well-being. With a designated track on the campus, the Walkathon gathered students, faculty, and staff, emphasizing the importance of mental health awareness through activities like warm-up sessions, the walk, and discussions, involving a total of 150 participants, including NSS volunteers and organizing committee members. The event provided a platform for fostering supportive conversations and promoting mental wellness within the community.
Celebrating 125th Birth Anniversary of Padmashree Awardee Dr. TMA Pai
Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) at Manipal Institute of Technology Bengaluru in collaboration with effort between the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit and Volunteer Service Organisation (VSO) MAHE Bengaluru and was aimed at fostering awareness about girl child education. Conducted in Gantiganahalli Village, the initiative included a street play performance emphasizing the importance of educating girls. Alongside the play, ELC branded items were distributed as symbolic tokens commemorating the cause, engaging the local community in discussions through a survey on their perspectives regarding girls' education.
With active participation from 25 individuals and six faculty members, the event on September 9th, 2023, successfully conveyed the significance of educating girls through an impactful street play. The performance resonated with the audience, highlighting the pivotal role of education in enhancing girls' independence and societal contribution. Additionally, the distribution of ELC branded items served as a thoughtful gesture, reinforcing the message of promoting girl child education while eliciting valuable insights on the community's views through an interactive survey.
The Student Outreach Program Project "Vidyaa", led by VSO MAHE and NSS Unit MIT-BLR, aimed to positively impact primary school students in Muddenahalli. Focused on inspiring a love for learning, the program incorporated mentorship, academic support, creativity promotion, and confidence-building activities. The program strived for inclusivity and community engagement.
Scheduled from September 2nd to September 23rd, 2023, the initiative sought to create a nurturing learning environment, empowering dreams and fostering a love for education.
The MIT-BLR Club Orientation Day was a comprehensive event designed to introduce students to the various aspects and opportunities within the NSS Unit at Manipal Institute of Technology, Bengaluru.
The orientation aimed to familiarize attendees with the Unit's mission, vision, and activities, emphasizing the importance of community service and social responsibility. It provided insights into the diverse projects and initiatives undertaken by NSS, fostering a sense of volunteerism among students. The event also featured interactive sessions, where students could learn about the positive impact they could make through active participation in NSS activities.
The Electoral Literacy Club at MIT Bengaluru in collaboration with NSS Unit MIT-BLR organized a Voter Awareness Survey in the village of Yelahanka New Town, aiming to evaluate and enhance awareness about the importance of voting among the local community.
ELC and NSS volunteers conducted surveys to assess the villagers' understanding of electoral processes, their level of political awareness, and any barriers they faced in exercising their voting rights. The initiative sought to bridge gaps in knowledge, address citizens' concerns, and promote civic engagement.
The survey in Yelahanka New Town aimed not only to gather data but also to initiate conversations and awareness campaigns that could empower the community to actively participate in the electoral process
Volunteer Services Organization (VSO) MAHE, organised a blood donation drive at the MAHE Bengaluru campus on April 1st, 2023. This event aimed to encourage voluntary blood donation, emphasizing its pivotal role in saving lives.
What distinguished this drive, was the active involvement of the NSS (National Service Scheme) Unit from MIT-BLR, who not only volunteered their services but also wholeheartedly participated by donating blood. Their dedication and commitment to this noble cause significantly contributed to the success of the blood camp.
Through the joint efforts of VSO and the NSS Unit from MIT-BLR, the blood camp witnessed a substantial turnout. The willingness of the NSS volunteers to not only offer their time and support but also actively engage in blood donation exemplifies the spirit of altruism and compassion within the academic community.
The NSS MIT-BLR Unit, in collaboration with the Electoral Literacy Club, conducted an Electoral Voting Rights Campaign in Gantiganahalli village on March 25, 2023. The primary objective of this initiative was to raise awareness about voting rights and the significance of possessing a voter's ID card among the villagers. Understanding that voting is a crucial right for citizens aged 18 and above, the campaign aimed to ensure that these individuals were equipped with the necessary documentation to exercise their voting rights during the upcoming elections.
The event catered specifically to the residents of Gantiganahalli village, aligning with the impending state-wide election. By engaging with the villagers, the NSS volunteers from MIT Bengaluru emphasized the pivotal role voting plays in shaping fair representation and decision-making processes. Through door-to-door interactions, they reached 116 houses, involving 584 individuals. Among them, 433 were eligible voters aged 18 or older, and an impressive 421 possessed valid voter ID cards. The campaign not only focused on increasing awareness but also facilitated the voter registration process for those who lacked the necessary documentation.
The NSS Unit Inauguration at Manipal Institute of Technology Bengaluru on 11th February 2023 was a momentous event signifying a pivotal step towards fostering community engagement and social responsibility.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Vasantha Shetty, Deputy Registrar at Rajiv Gandhi University Of Health Sciences, Bangalore and Dr. Raghavendra Prabhu, Deputy Registrar, MAHE Bengaluru.
